February Book List for Homeschool Moms

If you remember, in January I committed to READ  - as I had also done in 2016.

I'm happy to report I'm still reading... maybe not as much or as fast as I did over the winter holidays, but I am carving out time to read and expand my literary horizons.

(In fact, a book I have been wanting to read for quite some time just arrived at my front door step this afternoon!)

I hope you enjoy this month's book list - they are books I completed in January - and there are a few I just want to recommend to you BECAUSE I love them.

February Book List for Homeschool Moms - 2017 Reading Resolution

FICTION

The Art Forger - a guilty escape for me - this book was full of intrigue and suspense, and  a touch of interesting art history as well.

Historical Fiction

Winter Garden - Kristin Hannah is one of my favorite authors - all of her books are good!

Non Fiction

First Ladies: Presidential Historians on the Lives of 45 Iconic American Women - this book gives us a glimpse into the lives of First Ladies - SO interesting

America's First Daughter - in keeping with the theme of presidential families, I enjoyed the story this book told about Patsy Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson's daughter

Parenting/Lifestyle

Raising a Modern Day Knight - my husband read this one first and recommended it to me... a must read for moms of boys

The Life Giving Home: Creating a Place of Belonging and Becoming - I've always enjoyed anything by Sally Clarkson - this is her latest

Classics

Something Beautiful for God - This biography of Mother Theresa by Macolm Muggeride was a book I committed to reading with my 15 year old for her school assignments.  We had such great discussions about this book, and learning a bit more about Mother Theresa, too.

The Age of Innocence - Edith Wharton won the Pulitzer Prize for this novel in 1921 (and it's a FREE KINDLE DOWNLOAD, too!)... I committed to reading a heavier classic each month, but this one wasn't a struggle at all -- a great classic to start with.

LEGO Valentine Ideas and Free Writing Prompts

We celebrate EVERY holiday with some type of LEGO activity.

If you are like me, however, you also like activities to have an educational value, too.

It is well known that building LEGOS is good for our children's attention spans, for their ability to follow directions, and also for their creativity.

LEGOS can also be used to work on writing and grammar skills, too.

So, in my effort to come up with LEGO Valentine ideas, I've developed minifig writing prompts!

Awesome, right?

LEGO Minifig Valentine Writing Prompts

In this download you will find one grammar rule and 10 writing prompts. Be sure to get a box of conversation hearts, because one of the prompts is a fun activity with candy!

I've found that kids REALLY love these!

You might want to declare Valentine's Day a LEGO day in your homeschool.... get out the LEGOS, writing prompts, minifigures, and just have a fun day.

You'll win major mom points and create great memories, too!
