Scruble Cube Word Fun!

Our latest product review for The Old Schoolhouse Review Crew is a game that can help your children with spelling, math, language arts, and logic.   It also encourages creativity and allows for FUN!

If you are a fan of word games, then you will definitely like the Scruble Cube.  The cube takes some of your favorite games (like Scrabble and the Rubiks Cube) and combines them to make a 3-D word game.

I must say when we got the game I didn't quite understand the appeal.  Once we started playing, however, it was obvious what the appeal was.   You are challenged to make words in a more interesting format (3D) and you can play many different variations of the game.

The cube comes with scoring pads and an hourglass timer.  The only tricky things was finding the instructions, which are cleverly hidden behind the back (flat) panel of the package.   If you miss them, you can find out all you need to know on their site.

According to the makers of Scruble Cube:

The SCRUBLE Cube™ combines letters on the cube in proportion to their frequency of occurrence in the English language. Frequent two and three letter combinations are also factored into the configuration of the letters on the cube. These letters are coupled with special premium scoring tiles and combine to provide endless hours of mind bending entertainment for 1 to 4 players.  The SCRUBLE Cube™ is a word game and a puzzle- on steroids!

The facts about the Scruble Cube:

*It is $29.95, available from Scruble Cube itself.
*It is currently sold at Toys R Us, Barnes & Noble, and several other specialty stores.
*It is an award winning game:

Our impressions:

One of the best features were the lesson plans available on the Scruble Cube website.  These included math, language arts, sentence making, logic, and even a lesson with the periodic table of elements.  Our favorite was Scruble Vowel Math, which helped us with vowel awareness and math computation.

The most beginning speller (who can spell any basic three letter word) can play the games, as well as any adult.  My six and ten year old both played the game with a measure of success.  I have been challenging my youngest to try to make his spelling words for the week on the cube... and then calculate the total points for the words he can find. We have rolled spelling and math into one - I like that!

To me, the best part is that I can just pop the Scruble Cube in my bag and take it along with us.   It is a game that is fun, engaging, and highly educational.  In addition, it can be played ALONE or with several people.
